Panguni Uthiram: An explanation by Pt. Anil ji

Panguni maasam is the final month according to the solar calendar. It is also called as Meena maasam. According to Periya Puranam and Bramhanda Puranam, Lord Subrahmanya and Goddess Devayani were married in this month in the Uttara Phalguni star.Brahmotsavams and Kalyana Utsavams are performed in this month all over Tamil Nadu.

In Bala Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayanam, Sage Valmiki states that Lord Rama and Sita were married on the same auspicious day. The Shiva Puranam and Brahmanda Puranam state that Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati on the same day as well.

Hence this auspicious month is also known as Kalyana Maasam.
